The Galaxy S11 is the next high-end smartphone from Samsung. Expected early 2020, it already promises to be the ultimate of the South Korean manufacturer. On the menu of the future flagship store, there is a triple / quadruple 108 Mp photo sensor, a perforated Infinity-O screen and a design inspired by the latest Note 10. Data sheet, release date, price… We take stock together on the first information available on the Galaxy S11.
Inspired by the success of its Galaxy S10 trio, Samsung should launch three versions of its Galaxy S11 in early 2020. We expect to discover a standard Galaxy S11, a Galaxy S11e (a cheaper version) and a Galaxy S11 + (a large format variant). According to a rumor relayed by Evan Blass, Samsung is currently considering merging the Note and the Galaxy S . If the manufacturer were to take action, the Galaxy S11 could finally be called “Galaxy One” in order to mark the revival of the two ranges. For the time being, it is still only noise from the corridors.
Release date and price
In view of its usual release schedule, Samsung should present the Galaxy S11 in the month of February 2020 with the possible presentation date February 18, 2020 . Like last year, the conference would take place in San Francisco in the United States. It is not impossible that the manufacturer decides to shake the outline of its calendar. However, nothing indicates for the moment that Samsung chose to advance or postpone the release of the Galaxy S11.
On the price side, we can expect a price similar to that of the Galaxy S10 . The “e” variant would thus be sold around € 750 in Europe. The standard model would be sold at a starting price of around 900 euros. The alleged S11 + would be offered at just over 1000 euros. For the time being, these are only estimates. We will update this file as soon as we have more information.
According to Evan Blass, Samsung has decided to revise the screen size up compared to the Galaxy S10 . The cheaper S11e variant would thus have a screen as imposing as this year’s S10 +. Here are the sizes revealed by the leaker:
- Galaxy S11e: 6.2 or 6.4 inch screen
- Galaxy S11: 6.7 inch screen
- Galaxy S11 +: 6.9 inch screen
According to rumors, some models in the range are enhanced with an AMOLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate . We imagine that this feature will be reserved for S11 and S11 +, the two most premium versions. Samsung could thus align itself with Google, OnePlus, Asus and Xiaomi. According to a trademark, the S11 would be covered with a screen called ‘SAMOLED’ .
Processor, RAM and battery
Not surprisingly, the American Galaxy S11 will likely be powered by Qualcomm’s SoC Snapdragon 865 . Models sold on the European market should rely on the SoC Exynos 990 developed by Samsung. We expect to find up to 12 GB of RAM on some models.
On the autonomy side, the leaks rely on batteries ranging from 3800 mAh to 4500 mAh. The Galaxy S11 + would be powered by a 5000 mAh battery , against 4500 mAh for the standard S11 and 3800 mAh for the S11e . These imposing accumulators are made possible by the integration of a new 50% smaller electronics manufactured by ITM Semiconductor . Thanks to this miniature component, Samsung saves space inside its terminals to place large batteries.
- Galaxy S11e: 3800 mAh
- Galaxy S11: 4500 mAh
- Galaxy S11 +: 5000 mAh
According to Ice Universe, famous leaker, Samsung will put the package on photography . The first rumors also count on the integration of a quadruple photo sensor composed of a main module of 108 Mp . It would be the ISOCELL Bright HMX designed in partnership with Xiaomi. This sensor offers a definition equivalent to that of a high-end digital SLR camera. A leak ensures that the 108 MP sensor that will be integrated into the S11 is a variant of the Brighr HMX.
This photo module would be accompanied by three other photo sensors. In particular, there is a ToF sensor dedicated to detecting the depth of field. The S11 would benefit from more than a x5 optical zoom developed by Corephotonics, an Israeli firm bought by Samsung. Samsung Electro-Mechanics has also started mass production of a new photo module with an x5 optical zoom in May 2019. A Pixel 4 space zoom would also be involved . In addition, the smartphone could record videos in 8K .
Finally, contrary to rumors that predicted a fivefold rear camera arranged in the shape of an “X”, the Galaxy S11 + would actually benefit from a quadruple photo sensor in more conventional format . It should be equipped with a main sensor of 108 MP and a second in 12 MP (2.4μm). The specifications for the other two sensors remain unknown at this time.
A more practical fingerprint reader under the screen?
Samsung is currently reportedly working on a much larger fingerprint reader than the Galaxy S10 . The sensor integrated into the Galaxy S11 would have an “active area” of 64 millimeters, against only 32 millimeters for the S10. Unlocking your mobile would therefore be accessible on a larger area of the screen.
An infrared spectrometer?
According to a recent patent filed in the United States by Samsung, the Galaxy S11 could be equipped with a new infrared spectrography sensor . This device would be able to decompose the light emitted by an object to deduce its composition. The smartphone could therefore provide precise nutritional information on foods by simply scanning them with a sensor located on the back.
Biometrics: XXL fingerprint reader that scans two fingers
One of the novelties of this smartphone was probably teased by Qualcomm during the presentation of its new 3D fingerprint sensor Sonic Max: this new sensor has the advantage of increased speed and precision. Above all it allows to scan two fingerprints at the same time for more security.
According to the first renderings appeared on the canvas (and visible below), the S11 would be sublimated by a screen found Infinity-O encircled with fine borders. The punch in the slab is smaller and placed in the center like the Galaxy Note 10 . We would also find the Aurora colors inspired by the Note 10 . At the risk of repeating the words “Note 10” again, everything indicates that it will have an extremely close design . On the back, the photo sensors would no longer be horizontal, but in a rectangle a bit like the squares in which the competitors have almost all decided to put their photo sensors this year.
Please note, these images were designed only on the basis of the first leaks. We therefore advise you to take the visible design below with a certain perspective. What do you think of these first rumors? What do you expect from Samsung in 2020? We await your opinion in the comments.
